Behavioral Sleep Medicine Consultation for Clinicians
I offer individual consultation to licensed clinicians working with sleep-related concerns, including clinicians completing the clinical experience requirements for the Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (DBSM) credential through the Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine Alternate Track.
Consultation is available both for clinicians pursuing DBSM certification and for clinicians who want guidance with behavioral sleep medicine cases in their existing practice.
DBSM Alternate Track Consultation
The Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine offers an Alternate Track for clinicians who have not completed an accredited behavioral sleep medicine training program. As part of this pathway, candidates must complete 250 hours of documented clinical experience in consultation with a clinician who is board-certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine or Sleep Medicine. At least 150 of those hours must involve direct behavioral sleep medicine patient care.
For clinicians working full-time in behavioral sleep medicine, BBSM requires at least one hour of individual or group consultation per week. Clinicians working part-time should receive consultation at a frequency proportionate to their clinical training hours.
I provide one-on-one consultation by videoconference, typically on a weekly basis. A different meeting schedule can also be arranged when appropriate for your clinical hours and training needs.
Consultation may include case conceptualization, assessment, treatment planning, implementation of behavioral sleep medicine interventions, troubleshooting treatment difficulties, and discussion of cases in which sleep problems overlap with medical or psychological concerns.
I can also complete the BBSM Alternate Track Attestation Form for clinical experience completed in consultation with me when I have sufficient information to document that the applicable training requirements have been met. BBSM requires Alternate Track applicants to submit an attestation signed by the consultant or supervisor documenting their clinical experience.
Behavioral Sleep Medicine Case Consultation
You do not need to be pursuing DBSM certification to schedule consultation.
I also work with licensed clinicians who encounter sleep-related concerns in their practice and want consultation on assessment, case conceptualization, or treatment. Sleep problems often interact with mood, medical conditions, pain, medication use, health behaviors, and other concerns, and straightforward treatment protocols do not always account for that complexity.
Consultation can address areas such as:
-
insomnia and CBT-I
-
circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders
-
nightmares and imagery rehearsal therapy
-
CPAP adjustment and adherence
-
behavioral management of sleep-related concerns
-
interpretation and clinical use of sleep diaries
-
treatment planning when sleep difficulties occur alongside chronic pain, metabolic health concerns, or mental health conditions
-
cases in which treatment is not progressing as expected
The goal is to look carefully at what is maintaining the sleep problem, what has already been tried, and what may need to change.
Who is consultation for?
Consultation is intended for licensed clinicians providing behavioral health or other clinical services within the scope of their professional license.
For clinicians pursuing DBSM certification through the Alternate Track, consultation can be structured around the clinical experience requirements established by the Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Clinicians seeking case consultation without pursuing certification can schedule consultation based on the needs of their practice.
About my behavioral sleep medicine training

My clinical work focuses primarily on sleep disorders, including insomnia, nightmares, circadian rhythm disorders, and CPAP adjustment and adherence difficulties. I also work extensively at the intersection of sleep, chronic pain, metabolic health, and psychological functioning.
